It looks like a regular trumpet, with finger buttons on top. But if you look closer, the valves are Rotary valves instead of Piston valves. Usually, Rotary valves have the finger buttons horizontally aligned with the valves, but in this case they are vertically aligned. This is known as Top Action Rotary Valves, or TARV.

TARV systems have existed as long as brass instruments have rotary valves, but they seem to have been less standard than the Side Action Rotary Valves (SARV).

In the 1920's and 1930's, the makers who specialised in instruments with rotary valves wanted to join the upcoming Jazz-hype and so this model TARV trumpet was designed. It looks like a 'regular' (Jazz) trumpet, but they did not have to produce piston valves which would have been more costly for these makers.
