Gerhard Schneider
In my collection:
Operating during a fascinating period of collaboration within the twentieth-century German brass industry, Gerhard Schneider built a reputation for high-level replication and master craftsmanship. Before establishing his own reputation, Schneider spent years developing his technical skills and acoustic expertise while working as an employee at the renowned factory of Hans Hoyer in the Vogtland region. This environment provided him with a deep understanding of traditional European valve design and manufacturing standards.
During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Schneider channeled this expertise into a highly specialized project, creating superb, handcrafted copies of the iconic, pre-war Gebr. Alexander Model 103 French horn. His meticulously built instruments caught the attention of the international music trade, leading to a prestigious export arrangement across the English Channel. Sponsored directly by the British manufacturing and distribution giant Boosey & Hawkes, Schneider's high-quality horns were regularly exported to England, where they became highly sought-after alternatives for professional orchestral musicians.
