Curia Bavaria
The history of Curia Bavaria Brass represents a unique, modern bridge between Japanese artistry and traditional German craftsmanship. The enterprise originally began as a specialized father-and-son partnership, conceived when Tatehiko Sakaino, a professional Japanese French horn player living in Germany, started a business exporting high-quality European brasses back to Japan. His son, Katsushi Sakaino, undertook formal, rigorous training as a professional master brass instrument builder. Combining their distinct musical and mechanical expertise, the duo officially launched their own production brand, Curia Bavaria, in the early 2000s.
Operating from their workshop in Hof (Bavaria), the boutique company achieved a monumental milestone in 2012 when they successfully acquired the legendary, historic Ed. Kruspe company—the world-renowned workshop credited with inventing the modern double French horn. Today, the Sakaino family proudly manages and manufactures the elite Ed. Kruspe line alongside their own contemporary Curia Bavaria brand, maintaining a high standard of acoustic precision for the global market.
