Fritz Hirsbrunner & Sohn (1911)
About the maker:
Hear me play this instrument on
This historic instrument is an Alto Horn, or Saxhorn Contralto in E♭, manufactured in 1911 by the renowned Swiss workshop Fritz Hirsbrunner & Sohn in Sumiswald. Hirsbrunner is celebrated for its deep roots in traditional Swiss brass craftsmanship.
When the instrument first arrived, it suffered from a large crack in the leadpipe that made it impossible to play. Following some amateur yet effective tinkering, the leak was successfully sealed, and this century-old piece of Swiss history now plays properly once again.
