A. K. Hüttl
In my collection:
Founded in 1877 by Anton Konrad Hüttl, this prominent manufacturing house began its journey in the historic instrument-making hub of Graslitz, Austria (now Kraslice, Czech Republic). Under Hüttl's energetic leadership, the enterprise experienced explosive growth, fueled by the region's rich crafting traditions and rising global demand. By 1913, the company had reached an industrial peak, proudly claiming to operate the largest and most modern musical instrument factory in both the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Germany, a testament to their advanced production methods and high output.
The geopolitical upheavals of the mid-twentieth century drastically altered the course of the family business. Following the end of the Second World War in 1945, the original manufacturing facilities in Graslitz were nationalized and absorbed into the state-sanctioned Amati cooperative. Refusing to let the family legacy dissolve, the makers relocated across the English Channel to Williamstown, South Wales, where they successfully resumed independent production under the trusted Hüttl name.
Seeking a return to continental Europe's manufacturing heartland, the company relocated its operations once more in 1954, establishing a new factory in Baiersdorf, West Germany. In this new setting, they continued to supply the international market with reliable, high-quality brass instruments for several decades. This long and resilient transnational journey finally came to an end in 1979, when all business operations ceased, concluding over a century of historic instrument production.
