C. Zinzi & C.

In my collection:

While definitive historical details regarding the Zinzi name remain limited, the brand represents an intriguing chapter in the history of brass production and distribution. Archives indicate that multiple individuals sharing the initial "C." operated within the music trade across the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, creating a complex lineage for researchers to separate. The earliest records highlight a Carlo Zinzi, who worked as an independent manufacturer specializing in robust brass winds tailored primarily for the demanding requirements of regional marching bands.

However, a distinct transition in the commercial use of the name occurred in the early decades of the twentieth century with Comingio Zinzi. Moving away from active manufacturing, this later C. Zinzi operated primarily as a musical instrument merchant and distributor, sourcing pre-made instruments from larger factories and branding them under his own name. Based on the design characteristics and assembly patterns of this specific instrument, it can be confidently attributed to this latter era of Comingio Zinzi’s business, serving as a classic example of a twentieth-century stencil instrument within the collection.
