Guichard (<1855)
This is an exceptionally rare B♭ Ophicleide, crafted by the historic pioneer Guichard, Breveté à Paris. Pinpointing the exact date of manufacture requires a look into French corporate history: although the founder sold the company in 1845, the highly respected 'Guichard' name and branding are documented to have been used by the workshop until at least 1855, and potentially even later. This suggests the instrument was likely produced during or shortly after this mid-19th-century period.
When this piece first arrived, it was in a very rough state, suffering from numerous cracks—some of which split completely through the brass tubing. Following delicate repairs to seal these breaches and restore proper airtightness, this vintage instrument has been successfully revived and is fully playable once again.
