Couesnon "Monopole" petit bugle (1927)

About the maker:

Hear me play this instrument on

Manufactured in 1927 and bearing serial number 48267, this E♭ petit bugle (soprano flugelhorn) comes from Couesnon’s top-of-the-range "Monopole" professional line. Built to play in a higher register than standard B♭ flugelhorns, these compact instruments were prized in European brass and military bands for their sweet, vocal soprano voice.

This instrument has had a long and brutal history. It arrived heavily beaten up, showing the severe dents, scars, and wear of a century of intense use.

Despite its rough cosmetic state, the horn has been given some careful attention. With some dedicated effort and minor repairs to get everything working again, this rare French soprano is now somewhat playable once more.
