F. Van Cauwelaert

About the maker:

Manufactured by the historic F. Van Cauwelaert workshop in Brussels, this B♭ cornet stands as an elegant example of late 19th- or early 20th-century Belgian brass craftsmanship. The Van Cauwelaert family was renowned for supplying high-quality instruments to civic and military bands across the Low Countries.

Unlike many cornets from this manufacturer that feature text stamped along the side of the bell flare, this model features a beautiful, intricate hand-cut engraving positioned elegantly on the top of the bell. This distinct placement makes it a striking visual piece when held in a playing position.
Despite its unknown age, the instrument has survived in good playable condition. The internal compression remains strong, and the mechanics respond beautifully, allowing the horn to retain its original, characteristic European warmth.
