F. Besson London (±1896)

This F. Besson London cornet, built around 1896, bears the serial number 57456. It is a wonderful example of late-Victorian British brass making, though time and plenty of heavy use have certainly taken their toll on its mechanics.

With a cracked leadpipe, a loose main tuning slide, and several air leaks running through its vintage tubing, this horn is unfortunately no longer playable. I have chosen to leave it completely unrestored to preserve its historical integrity just as it is.

Yet, even though it is mechanically silent, this instrument remains a vital piece of the collection due to the extraordinary artistry on its exterior. The bell features an exquisitely preserved, hand-cut floral engraving, showcasing the incredible decorative craftsmanship that 19th-century factory artisans were capable of.
