F. Besson London (±1896)
About the maker:
Manufactured around 1896, this F. Besson London cornet bears the serial number 57456. While it stands as a testament to late-Victorian British instrument making, time and heavy use have taken their toll on its mechanical structure.
With a cracked leadpipe, a loose main tuning slide, and several air leaks through its vintage tubing, this horn is no longer playable. It remains completely unrestored to preserve its historical integrity.
Despite its mechanical silence, this instrument is a vital piece of my collection due to the extraordinary artistry on its exterior. The bell features an exquisitely preserved, hand-cut floral engraving, showcasing the incredible decorative craftsmanship of 19th-century factory artisans.
