Unknown Maker

This is a forward-facing Alto Flugelhorn in E♭, crafted by an unknown maker. The instrument is completely bare of any manufacturer engravings or serial numbers, leaving its exact pedigree a mystery. When it first arrived, the exterior looked to be in good shape, but the inside was heavily fouled and needed a thorough, deep cleaning. Once decades of internal dirt were cleared out, the horn was successfully brought back to life.

Finding a suitable mouthpiece for this horn proved to be a real challenge. It came without an original, and nearly all the standard alto horn mouthpieces I have feature a shank that is too small for the receiver. I managed to find just one alternative that fits, though it requires a small wrap of plumber's tape around the shank to seal properly and sit securely. While the instrument is now fully functional, it does suffer from some very noticeable intonation issues.
