Antoine Courtois (1927-1930)
About the maker:
Hear me play this instrument on
This elegant instrument is an Alto Horn crafted by the historic Parisian workshop of Antoine Courtois, featuring a nickel silver finish. While factory ledger archives from this era are limited, the specific street address and medals inscribed on the bell provide excellent chronological clues, narrowing its manufacturing date to sometime between 1927 and 1930.
Upon arrival, the horn suffered from a minor compression leak located in the leadpipe. By sealing the crack with a simple layer of tape, the necessary airtightness was successfully restored. Thanks to this quick intervention, this beautifully crafted piece of French brass history is fully playable once again.
